2022 Is Not Getting Better

 OK. So, I already wrote a pot of how bad 2022 really has been. But believe it or not, it's gotten worse. Much worse.

On Thursday Rick took advantage of me being at the doctors and not on a meeting in the kitchen area to do the dishes. He's pretty awesome that way! He loaded the dishwasher, washed down the sink and counters and headed back to his "office" to do work. 

I came home from my appointment and saw water in the driveway. It was odd because it seemed to be coming from under the house. I walked into the kitchen to find about an inch of standing water. I opened the dishwasher to get it to stop and found the water was coming from a hose under the sink. 

"No big deal," thought. "I''l just shut off the valve to that hose." Well, as I went to turn the valve and burned my hand with the hot water the whole valve broke off and now I had a hose flowing at full blast with burning hot water. 

At this point I am screaming for Rick to come help me, but he didn't have his brace on so it took him time to hobble down the hall (still in a lot of pain from the ACL tear). Katie came running and we both run outside to turn the water off to the house. Problem is, Katie and I had no idea what lever to pull. She grabbed her phone to call one neighbor while I ran next door to get the other. Eventually we found the water lever and turned the water off to the house. But by this time there is more than 2 inches (maybe 2.5 inches) of water in our kitchen. 

Rick got on the phone to call a plumber, Katie and I got busy soaking up the water. Our sweet neighbor found a mop for us and that helped a bunch. 

Long story short, the plumber not only found the hose that was busted, but found 2 more leaks under the house AND our water heater is leaking too. So he got busy fixing the hoses to the kitchen, making a make shift trap for the water heater leak and will be back next week.

We also called Clean Tech, a local company that handles water damage. They came and set up dryers/dehumidifiers on Thursday to see if it would be possible to dry from under the house and in the kitchen. The hope was they could save out floors. That hope was dashed on Friday when they returned. They ripped up the linoleum in the kitchen and continued running the loud dryers. Now they think they may have to rip out the cabinets to further dry since the linoleum goes all the way under the cabinets and may be holding water. He will be back Monday to give further report.

Oh.  But that's not all. When the plumber pulled out the dishwasher to fix the hoses, he discovered that our dishwasher is hardwired to the house. He finds this dangerous and so now we have an electrician coming next week to give us his expert opinion. 

                            



This all happened Thursday and Friday. Much of it Friday when I was in chemo treatment. Yep. 2022 just isn't getting better! 

I know others are hurting more. I am blessed to have medical insurance for my cancer treatments and multiple surgeries this year, medical insurance for Rick's PT and doctors, Home insurance that hopefully will help with all this damage, and a savings account that we can pay for the rest. I am blessed. But why does this all have to happen within the same time frame? When can I have a breath?

Slice Biopsy, Bone Biopsy and Port Insertion

On January 27th I had the slice biopsy. They simply cut open above my collar bone and took a slice from the lymph-node that started this whole thing. This hospital surgery situation was easy and smooth. I got checked in and all my IVs going and etc. They wheeled me to the second pre-surgery room where the anesthesiologist who looked just like the oncology doctor in the TV show New Amsterdam. She was beautiful! Then my regular doctor came in and talked to me about how she was going to slice the spot right where there are already wrinkles forming so the scar will be less noticeable. That made me laugh! But it also made me happy because I can honestly say I don't want a noticeable scar on my neck. I was thinking it would be the end of tank tops for me. However, I now see hope in the end. The first picture was the day after surgery. The second one was taken 9 weeks later. Not too bad! Let Me Catch You Up

 It's been a long time since I blogged. It has been seven months of ups and downs, encouraging news and then dashing news. I did manage to take some pictures of my hair growth, but I will post that in a different blog post.  For now, let's get caught up. In January 2022 I was told "it's classic lymphoma, that's the easiest to get rid of. You'll be done by the end of summer." So I followed the plan. I did the chemo. I followed up in July with a PET Scan. And nope... not gone. Vastly reduced, but not gone. So another biopsy was scheduled. The needle biopsy again showed nothing conclusive (I will never do that again) so I was referred to have a surgical biopsy done. This one showed there was enough to not delay in more treatments. 2022 Sucks for the Riggan Household

 Warning: This is a venting post.  On Monday morning my husband got a call from a work-basketball friend. He was told that another work-basketball friend is leaving the company and that Monday was the last day they could play together. Rick hasn't played basketball since my diagnosis because he wanted to limit my exposure. But the love of basketball and knowing he had 4 more days until my first treatment drew him in.  He went to play and took great precautions. He wore his knee brace. He chose to not play hard as usual and drive to the basket. He was careful. Still, playing on the blacktop is not good for his body. I got a call about 45 minutes after he left. He told me he fell and doesn't think he can drive. I grabbed my purse and headed to Poly. Once I got there I found out that he heard two pops in his knee when he planted his foot.
